Use of our Services & SpaceДЄs a member of Lokaal it is presumed that you own and operate your own business and it is understood that you are not an employee of Lokaal or itвЂ™s parent company 512 Holdings Inc. Participate in activities and events hosted in the space or organize and host your own events. Share your ideas and experiences for cross-collaboration. Engage with other members, it might be where your next great idea comes from or you might hold the key to theirs. Lokaal members have opportunities to build partnerships, collaborate and share resources that help leverage creativity and innovation.

Social programming and events create connections and engage the broader community. The Lokaal space is designed to encourage collaboration with common areas and accidental meeting spots that are social spaces, places of relaxation, and places to hatch new ideas. We love our community inside and outside the building and strive to nourish all that it offers. Most of our members live in the area and walk to Lokaal. Lokaal is Dutch for вЂњlocalвЂќ and aptly named for our mandate to be a local hub for the creative and entrepreneurial spirit to flourish. The departments are strongly encouraged to engage the Associate Dean for Infrastructure on the development of the understanding of the shared space and the MOU.Lokaal is a shared coworking space for entrepreneurs, freelance professionals and remote workers who want to belong to and work in a collaborative environment filled with other talented people. Sharing of space may also require renovation and a partnered financial arrangement is encouraged. Typically, a second department/group will share space assigned to a department for a finite time period.

Temporary space assignment (typically less than a year).

The departments are strongly encouraged to engage the Associate Dean for Infrastructure on the development of the understanding of the shared space and the MOU.

Shared space is advantageous to PIs, research groups and departments requiring similar facilities.

This is permissible if the work is mutually beneficial to the UW and the outside entity.

Non-UW employees may collaborate on a long-term basis with faculty members or centers or departments.

The вЂњCenter Space MOUвЂќ following is used in those cases. This space should be assigned only for the life of the grant funding with an option of extension if other funding is obtained or there is an extension on the grant.

Research centers or large multi-PI grants can require specific space assignment.

There are four instances of that are outside of these вЂњtypicalвЂќ space assignments, and, the best practice of the College of Engineering is to develop a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for space use, in particular the longevity of space use. Research space is also assigned based on the departmental space policy to individual or groups of researchers and should be reviewed on a regular cycle between 1 and 5 years.

In CoE departments, office space is assigned following the departmental space policy. On the University of Washington campus, space is reserved for University of Washington employees.
